Alaska SEEDs is an after school program, taught by Carrie Jenkins to present to youth the finest instruction in Middle Eastern Arts along with programming that promotes self-discovery and self-actualization, provides mentorship at a very high level, and prepares young women for independance.
To mentor young women in order to create healthy and strong individuals who are socially and fiscally responsible to themselves and their community. This is accomplished through the vehicle of dance, specifically American Tribal Style(r) (ATS) dance, talking circles, journal writing and presentations.
The program accepts 25 teen girls (13 to 18 years old) in the Anchorage community for one academic year of after-school classes, 1 1/2 hours each, three times per week. Entrance into the program does not depend on demonstrated talent, standard beauty, or ability to pay the fees the program would require.
